Most Expensive Expensive Cost Effective Value Priced Least Expensive

The most cost effective range is 150 to 189 yards. However, there are some holes that just will not play longer than 150 yards. In this case, you can elect to move down to the 135 to 149 yard range and pay a higher premium, or take a look at the other par 3 holes on the golf course. A standard par 72 golf course will have four par 3 holes, and good golf course design features differing yardages in the par 3 holes - as such, most of the time you will have the ability to match the prize value with a hole of appropriate length.

FOR EXAMPLE:

You are looking to cover 144 golfers, and want to offer a $10,000 cash hole-in-one prize. The par 3 holes on the golf course where your tournament is to be held measure as follows:
  • Hole #2: 157 yards
  • Hole #7: 165 yards
  • Hole #13: 138 yards
  • Hole #17: 191 yards
If you put the prize on the shortest hole, your contest would look like this (note prices below are for $10,000 prize hole only, tee sign for prize hole included):
  • # OF PLAYERS: 144
  • CASH VALUE OF PRIZE: $10,000
  • PRIZE HOLE DISTANCE: 138 yards (#13 in this example)
  • CONTEST COST: $433
If you put the prize on the most cost effective hole, your contest would look like this:
  • # OF PLAYERS: 144
  • CASH VALUE OF PRIZE: $10,000
  • PRIZE HOLE DISTANCE: 157 yards (#2) or 165 yards (#7, either work in this example)
  • CONTEST COST: $297
If you put the prize on the longest hole, your contest would look like this:
  • # OF PLAYERS: 144
  • CASH VALUE OF PRIZE: $10,000
  • PRIZE HOLE DISTANCE: 191 yards (#17 in this example)
  • CONTEST COST: $269
Note that the most cost effective hole IS NOT the least expensive, there is a difference. If you push a par 3 hole back beyond 190 yards, your cost will go down...BUT you are not giving the players in your tournament much of a chance to win the prize, 190+ yards is a long way to hit a golf shot.

Hopefully you now have an idea of how you can manipulate the distance of your prize hole(s) to manage your price and budget accordingly. Please try using the Hole in One quote calculator so that you can get an idea of the cost for the particular golf course that you will play your golf tournament.
